First Annual
Parents’ Day
Will Be Sunday
WILSON — Nearly 400 parents of
Atlantic Christian College students
from seven states have made
plans to visit the college campus
here Sunday, Feb. 4, for observ
ance of the institution’s first An
nual Parents’ Day which will offi
cially launch CoUege Appreciation
Week sponsored by the Wilson
Chamber of Commerce.
CoUege officials and students are
planning a warm welcome for the
parents who wiU be coming from
Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, New
York, South Carolina and Washing
ton, D. C. as well as North Caro
lina. They will have the opportuni
ty to become better acquainted
with the educational opportunities
offered their children at Atlantic
Christian College.
Regestration for parents wiU be
gin at the college at 8 a.m. Stu
dents and parents will attend
churches of their choice in t h e
city during the morning and a
luncheon on the campus at 12:30
p.m.
During a special program to be
given during the luncheon the
group will hear an address by Dr.
Arthur D. Wenger, AOC president,
and greetings by Moseley Hussey,
executive secretary of the Wilson
diamber of Commerce.
Open House wiU be held at the
college beginning at 2 p.m. at which
time parents will meet members
of the faculty and staff and visit
classroom and dormitory facilities.

Essay Cup
Rules Told
Mr. Ashton Wiggs of the Busi
ness Department announces the
opening of the annual College Es
say Contest. The winner of this
contest receives the Denny Essay
Cup Award and the winning Essay
is preserved in the Archives of
the College at the C. L. Hardy
Library.
All entries must be presented in
the prescribed manner by April
13th, 1962. This year’s reading
committee will consist of Mr. Hugh
Johnston, chairman, and Mrs. Dor
othy Eagles and 'Mr. R. Parker
Wilson, members. The essays are
presented to the Committee by
number with authorship concealed
to insure the judging on strictly
literary hallmarks.
Last year’s winner was Betty
Ann Thomas who competed against
nine entrees for first place.
All essays are to be written on
the college motto “Habebunt Lu
men Vitae” — “They shall have
the light of life.” Each essay must
be t^ewritten, double-spaced and
consist of a 500-1,000 word content.
The judging will center on neat
ness, originality and insight. AU
students of Atlantic Christian Col
lege are invited to compete.

LETS TWIST Friday night,_Omega Chi sorority sponsored a dance featuring the music of the
scepters. Intermission was highlighted by the p resentation of couples who have become engaged
or married in the list year. Following the intermission was a twist contest.
Chorus Tours North Carolina
Churches And High Schools
The Atlantic Christian College
Chorus appeared at five churches
and two schools ini Piedmont and
Western North Carolina this year
on the first portion of its Seventh
Annual Tour which began on Jan
uary 21.
The 40-voice choir, under the di
rection of James Cobb, acting
chairman of the ACC Music De
partment, presented a varied pro
gram of religious and secular
works and featured a number of
soloists.
The second portion of the tour
will carry the group into Virginia
and Washington, D. C.
The chorus began its tour at the
First Christian Church in Wilson on
the morning, January 21, and jour
neyed to the First Christian Church
in Winston-Salem that some day
for an evening performance.
A morning performance was pre
sented at Reynolds High School in
Winston-Salem January 22. The
group then traveled to Asheville for
an evening concert at the Aheville
First Christian Church.
An afternoon performance was
given at Arlington Junior High in
Gastonia. That evening, January
23, the group presented a concert
at the First Christian Church in
Charlotte.
The group then completed the
tour by singing at the First Chris
tian Church in Fayetteville on the
evening of January 24.

Scheduled Debate,
Film Cancelled
The showing of the film, "Oper
ation Abolition” has ibeen post
poned for the second time. The
film, scheduled to be shown on
Feb. 7, will be shown on April 10.
Following the film will ibe a de
bate by Fulton Lewis III.
Jim Van Camp, president of the
Campus Awareness Committee,
gave the following reason for the
cancellation. He stated that Mr.
Lewis has debated the film so
many times that the debates often
are very one sided. The C.A.C.
does not wish to hold the event
until a comparable opponent can
be found for Mr. Lewis.
It is hoped that Mr. Harrington,
a socialist, will be available on
the April 10th date.
Wilson Honors College
Plans have been completed for
the annual College Appreciation
Week sponsored by the Wilson
Chamber of Commerce to be held
during the first week in February.
The event will officially get im-
derway on Sunday, Feb. 4, when
Atlantic Christian College will hold
its first Annual 'Parents Day on
the campus. A full day of activities
are planned which will include
church services, a luncheon, band

There is to be a meeting of aU
presidents of the church related
collates in Eastern North CroUna
on Monday, Feb. 5, along with the
deans, department heads and
t>oard of trustee chairmen. A ban
quet is to be held that evening at
the college for guest and faculty

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, there is to
an assembly at Howard Chapel
at 10:20 a.m., and a concert in the
evening.
The Wilson Chamber of Com
merce Banquet and Awards Night
IS to be held Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Speaker for the event is to be
Richard Harkness, noted NBC
news commentator. The Farmer
Triple Achievement Award is to
be made at the banquet along with
the outstanding athlete award, to
be placed in the Chamber of Com
merce Hall of Fame.
Civic Club Night is to be held
on the evening of Feb. 8, with a
dinner to be served for all civic
clubs in Wilson at the Rrst Pres
byterian Church at 6:30 o clock.
Main speaker for the event will
be Sam Ragan, executive editor of
the Raleigh News and Observer, a
graduate of Atlantic Christen M-
lege. He will speak on The pl
icae and The Community. The
Wilson Exchange Club is in charge

Phi Sigma Tau
Planning Event
WILSON — The Phi Sigma Tau
sorority at Atlantic Christian Col
lege wiU be celebrating its Golden
Anniversary during Homecoming
at the college on Saturday, Feb
ruary 10.
The sorority was founded in 1912
with eight charter members and
at least three of five charter mem
bers now living are expected to
attend the event.
Members of the sorority and a
large number of the Phi Sigma
Tau Alumni Association members
are expected to attend a special
tea and banquet planned during
the day.
Registration for the group will
be on the campus and a Phi Sigma
Tau display will be open from 10
a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Charter members of the organ
ization wiU ride in the Home
coming Parade which is to begin
at 11 a.m. The Golden Anniver
sary Tea wiU be held at 3 p.m.,
at the home of President and Mrs.
Arthur D. Wenger.

byterian Church in the Clark Mem
orial Fellowship Hall at 5:30 p.m.

WILSON — Nineteen pretty
coeds at Atlantic Christian College
will vie for the title of “Homecom
ing Queen” next week, the winner
to be selected by the student body
and announced at the Coronation
Ball on the evening of Friday, Feb.
9.
The Coronation Ball will be one
of the main highlights of Home
coming at ACC which is being held
in conjunction with College Appre
ciation Week sponsored by the Wil
son Chamber of Commerce.
The Homecoming Queen and her
court will ride in the Homecoming
Parade on Saturday, Feb. 10 and
will be formally presented during
halftime activities at the ACC-
Pfeiffer College basketball game to
bo held at the Wilson Recreation
Center. The queen and her court
will be again honored at the Home
coming Dance following the game.
